"Are you busy?"

"Are you busy?" this question seems so heard often these days. I seriously hate to be asked this type of question because I really don't know what is the person asking expecting me to answer.

Is the person asking because she wants to chit chat with you but is afraid of interrupting you or is the person just asking for the sake of asking?

If I answer "Yes", then? If I answer "No", then?
For both situation, the person nods her head and smile and continue to look at you until you prompts her another question.

Perhaps I should answer "If you think I am busy, then I am. If you think I'm not, then I'm not. If you want to tell me something, just say it. Stop asking this question - It's gets pretty irritating if overused. :)"
